“Learn to do by doing” – The best lesson I’ve learned in my career in sales, marketing, technology and e-commerce. I’ve applied it to every professional challenge I’ve encountered with excellent results – growing revenues, building teams, leading innovation.
James Sherrett is a partner at Boxcar Marketing, perhaps even the original founder if we go back to when the company was called Work Industries. He spent 7 years at Slack, working with Slack’s largest customers to help them understand how Slack fits into their collaboration strategy and integrates with their technology stack.
In prior roles at Slack he led the sales, marketing and go-to-market initiatives, working closely with customers like RBC, Spotify, Airbnb, Disney and Walmart to help them get the most from Slack and transform the way they work. He likes to say things like ‘Learn to do by doing.’
Prior to Slack, James led growth, marketing and e-commerce teams in software, consumer products and travel, as well as founding his own marketplace for creative work called AdHack. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, some of James’ enthusiasms include playing hockey, fishing, local food, storytelling and reading. He has completed triathlons and renews his love for skiing every year on a reunion trip with high school friends.
